Effortless hosting can feel like one of those elusive, magical skill sets, unattainable to those of us who struggle to cook without burning anything. But in fact, it usually just boils down to a formula: a bit of this, a little of that, and a finishing touch. Christy's brunch formula is one of those easy go-to solutions that makes hosting as simple as it can be. The formula can be scaled up if you're an aspiring chef, or easily scaled down if your skills are more in line with reheating leftovers. This spread can be modified to whatever happens to be in season, and accommodates most dietary sensitivities.
Here it is:
Something savory: usually an egg dish, like a quiche
Something naughty: coffee cake or cinnamon rolls or scones
Something leafy: a salad with a fruity vinagrette, or a balsamic and maple syrup drizzle
Something fruity: a fruit salad, or assorted berries
Something bubbly: A pitcher of mimosas, in addition to tea or coffee
Some of us will make an art of learning how to craft quiche from scratch; but the good news for the rest of us is that most of these items can be purchased pre-made from your grocery store. When I use the formula, this is what I bought:
A quiche lorraine from the prepared foods section
Fresh muffins from the bakery section
A pack of raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries
Two single serving salad kits, which was just enough for a side four people
The morning-of routine was just a matter of putting things on plates and heating the quiche up in the oven. It could not be more easy, and yet guests are usually blown away by the presentation.
In 2022, let's resolve to not let preparation stand in the way of hosting in our homes. Cheers to an easy brunch with friends!
