Tosha+Dustin's Springtime Family Room

Y'all know how much I love repeat clients! Tosha and Dustin were some of the first clients I worked with, and Tosha's office was the second project ever featured in our blog. We've been working our way through their home ever since.

Tosha and Dustin's family room is the heart of their house. It's where they most of their time, hosting friends and sharing meals and cozying up in front of the TV as a family. It's also the main entertaining space, as it's the pass-through between the kitchen and the back deck.

The layout is tricky, though—the room is much longer than it is wide, and there needs to be room for lots of foot traffic. They didn't want to change the function of the room, which means we needed to maximize seating, while making room for a TV.

And here's the room now!

The first move was to rearrange the layout of the room. We brought in a huge sectional to nearly fill the space—this usually works better in a small room than cobbling together many smaller pieces. We also moved the TV out of the corner, and put it on a swivel mount. This makes it easy to angle toward the couch day to day, and lets it tuck out of the way when it's not in use.

This room flows in an open plan with the rest of the main floor (just off the dining room, which we finished a few years ago). The space flows well together with neutral colors and blue accents. We wanted to bring that feel through to this room, but with more color to suit this family space.

I love how it turned out! What do you think?
